hi, i'm neo bryce largo, the director of 'a short film about growing up"
Unfortunately, I do not have any behind the scenes photos for these. That should tell you how guerrilla this film was made! We had a blast making this.
To be completely honest, this was me during my most existential and probably idealistic and pretentious era. Back when I thought I had something to say. Lol.
About the film
The film was made because I felt like I was at a crossroads in my life. I felt like I was wasting my life with a film-adjacent job. And I just enjoy that friction between what people expect of you, what you expect for yourself and what you WANT for yourself. And this is probably a somewhat chaotic precursor to themes what would eventually turn into WALA.
Memories of Filmmaking
I have two memories that stick out to me when making this film. One was shooting the concept video for that match cut at the start of the film. I shot that with my phone (Footage unfortunately unavailable) and I was so excited to see how it would turn out with actual high quality cameras. And then the other memory was creating the poster for the film! It just felt so experimental. We just used my glasses as the focal point and added fake blood to it. So dramatic! But such a great exercise at creativity. Here is the poster.
In conclusion...
This was such a fun film to make and being surrounded by creative students, most still have not yet been jaded by life. It was just us being optimistic and making art for the sake of it. I miss those days and that version of myself dearly. But alas, you gotta harden yourself, kill that version of yourself to make space for a new one.
